My Cornell hockey experience developed from player to founder, president, and team captain. After competing with Cornell Club Hockey as a freshman, I helped establish a second team to create additional competitive opportunities for students.
As president, I managed budgeting, scheduling, university and league compliance, coach hiring, staffing, travel, rink coordination, and team operations. I was also selected as a unanimous team captain for three consecutive seasons.
The experience became one of the most significant leadership opportunities of my college career, teaching me how to manage people, solve problems under pressure, communicate across different stakeholders, and build an organization designed to continue beyond my own involvement.
Huron Hockey was a formative leadership experience for me. As team captain, I learned how to earn teammates’ trust, lead by example, and help build a competitive and supportive team culture. I also earned All-Conference honors and various team awards. The leadership foundation I developed at Huron carried directly into my experience at Cornell.
I began playing lacrosse shortly before high school and quickly developed into a varsity contributor and team leader. I ultimately served as a two-year captain and earned All-Conference Honorable Mention recognition.
Learning a new sport and progressing into a leadership role reinforced the importance of adaptability, preparation, and consistent improvement.
